Overcome Chronic Pain...For Good
We’ve helped many people just like you stop their chronic pain at it’s source.
We at the Carolina Center for Functional Medicine have experienced firsthand the frustration that goes along with having chronic pain. Many people have come to believe that their pain is “normal.” They think that having daily back or joint pain, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, GI pain, and migraine headaches are just a part of life; unavoidable and inevitable circumstances that arise as we age. Others that we work with believe their condition was acquired as a result of being dealt a bad genetic hand.
Why have people come to this conclusion? It is what our society has taught them. Friends, family, and TV commercials all tell us that “Getting old isn’t easy.”
We need to stop thinking of chronic pain, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis as diagnoses or conditions, and begin to see them for what they really are… symptoms. They are symptoms of some underlying imbalance within the systems of our body. Identify the imbalance, and you identify the solution.
The Problem… Inflammation
Over the past couple of decades, medical research has revealed the fact that ongoing inflammation in our bodies is behind most all chronic health concerns and diseases. Every individual is unique, and the cause of their inflammation is unique to them. Combining that inflammation with their unique genetic profile then leads to their specific symptom patterns. It actually turns the “good genes” off and the “bad genes” on. How is this possible?
Since the industrial revolution, the world in which we live has changed more drastically than any other time in human history. This change has led to a rapidly evolving mismatch between our biology and our environment. In an analogy comparing the environment to computer software and our genetics to computer hardware, we could say that that the two are no longer compatible. Because of this, many error messages (symptoms/diseases) are manifesting in our 21st Century lives. A key common thread connecting these error messages is chronic low-grade inflammation.
Your genes will determine what disease or condition pattern you will have. However, those patterns only arise if there is an unhealthy mismatch between your genes and your environment. Finding and correcting the mismatch turns the “bad genes” back off and the “good genes” back on.
There are many different factors that can cause inflammation in different individuals. Some common ones are:
- One or more food sensitivities
- Blood sugar regulation issues
- Gut microbial imbalances
- Small Intestine bacterial Overgrowth
- Nutrient imbalances
- Chronic Infection
- Heavy metal toxicity
- Environmental toxins
- Chronic Stress
